In order to express solidarity with the Kashmiri people and highlight the gross human rights violations by Indian forces in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), the Embassy of Pakistan in Bulgaria organized an online commemorative event on 5th February 2021.
The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Mariam Aftab, the Ambassador of Pakistan to the Republic of Bulgaria, and was attended by members of Pakistani diaspora in Bulgaria as well as students from the Sofia Medical University, Medical University of Plovdiv and Medical University of Pleven.
At the start of the event, messages of the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan on the occasion were read out to the audience. It was followed by the screening of a documentary shedding light on the historic background of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute, the struggle of the Kashmiri people, and the atrocities being perpetrated by the Indian forces in IIOJK. Later, speakers expressed their views on different aspects of the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir issue and highlighted the unprecedented repression by Indian forces in IIOJK, especially after revoking its special status under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution on 5 August 2019.
Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Pakistan expressed the strong commitment of the Government of Pakistan to resolving the long-standing issue of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the will of the Kashmiri people and the relevant Security Council resolutions. She called on the students and the Pakistani community members to effectively play their role in sensitizing the international community to the issue, especially through electronic and social media.
Earlier, the Embassy also organized a candlelight vigil in the Chancery during which special prayers were offered for the Kashmiri Shuhada and their families.
